The Project

The Trustees of the Memorial Hall would like to announce the commencement of a major refurbishment of the Hall, starting late 2011 and lasting 2 years. The work will cover nearly all aspects of the Hall to bring it up to modern standards. Details and updates will appear here.

In November 2011, work started on the toilets. Click here to view the plans.

The refurbishment is being funded by:

  • Sawbridgeworth Town Council  have donated £150,000

  • The Friends of the Memorial Hall

  • Trustees of the Hall

Herts Regional College – College trades students are undertaking various jobs in and around the Hall, and the work will be used for the students to gain invaluable real practice; the labour will be supplied free of charge to the Hall.  This ensures best value for the rate payers' money, prov ides the opportunity for the students to learn skills that they would not learn in the classroom, and ultimately helps the community by providing a Hall that we will be proud of.

Local suppliers who have offered to help the hall are:

  • Ridgeons, West Road, Sawbridgeworth – supplying all building materials at less than their cost price, making a major contribution to reduce our materials cost and delivering a significant saving to the project

  • Carpet Choice, London Road, Sawbridgeworth – fitting the vinyl FOC

  • Enfield Electrical, Maltings, Sawbridgeworth – Electrical fittings at reduced price

  • Dicky Payne – Plumber services in Sawbridgeworth and surrounding area (telephone 07868 037589) – providing labour at reduced price
